Abstract
This paper examines the impact of unemployment on happiness (life satisfaction, subjective well-being) in a cross-sectional study, while focusing on country’s health care systems. I used a classic multivariate OLS model in attempts to capture the effects of unemployment and healthcare efficiency on life satisfaction. Overall, I found that unemployment has a significant negative effect on life satisfaction and living in a country with an efficient health care system greatly and positively impacts one’s happiness. Unlike previous literature, my results add to the general discussion about life satisfaction by focusing on how efficient healthcare systems play a role.
